HTC is set to buy a majority stake in audio company Beats Electronics, maker of the popular Beats By Dr Dre headphones, in order to offer phones with better quality audio that what is currently available.
The Taiwanese company has been working with Beats Electronics on improving its handsets' audio performance for some time, and the $300 million deal with the company may see Beats Audio-branded mobiles appearing before long. Laptop manufacturer HP already sells devices with Beats Audio branding, but HTC is the first mobile manufacturer to offer the technology. While HTC is yet to confirm whether Beats branding will be used explicitly on handsets or not, the company did say it saw no reason why that couldn't happen.
